This is a snippet of what we are working on in the studio for the record. As you can hear, there aren’t final lyrics by any stretch of imagination but I just wanted to share with you all a unique insight in the writing/creative process of a song. The most important part to me has always been the vowels and how they sound within the context of the song. If the ‘sounds/vowels’ are right then the lyrics will almost tell you what they’re supposed to be about. I find that this is the most effective and enjoyable way to write a song, sort of ‘doing without doing’.

Hi Guys
I do intend to make available some acapella versions of the cuts so that DJ’s, mixers etc can get creative.
When I say dance I mean simply, music that can be danced to and yes, ‘My Vision’ can be regarded as part of that concept.

Josie McKenzie, you write so eloquently. I am sorry for the loss of your son. I’m happy that you’ve found peace. I am honored if in some small way my music has been a part of that. Peace to you Josie.

Don’t be afraid of me “losing my sound” due to working with another producer. My sound is in my voice, not in the hands or expertise of any producer.

Hello Everyone,
Everything is going so well in the studio. Bill Bottrell is a genius and is someone I hope to work with for many years to come. He truly is the last of a disappearing breed of great producers and I can assure you we are creating something very special here whether it be in a six or twelve song format.
As for Vera Blanc, upon further thought, I really feel that there was a language barrier and she probably misunderstood what I was trying to say, maybe I also misunderstood. Maybe this was the case or maybe it wasn’t, either way please continue to post here Vera. I value your contribution and I want you to feel at home here, I want you to treat seal.com as your home where you can converse with myself and others who feel like you.

Hi Everyone,
One final word on the Vera Blanc issue and then I think we should move on to more enjoyable conversation. Some of you have said that you thought I was too hard in my response to her post and that I asked for opinions and should therefore be prepared to “swallow” whatever people offer. You are correct, I did welcome everyone’s opinion on the ‘less is more’ topic. I did not welcome political, embittered ranting and I still don’t. If you read the Vera’s post you will see that for the most part she was quite rude not to mention ill informed. Might I again point out that in toying with the idea of a six song record, I wouldn’t expect the record company to charge the same price as they do for a twelve song record. If I had my way I would give the music away for free seeing as I don’t make any money from the actual mechanical sales of my records in any case not to mention making even less than nothing in this age of copyright violation. People seem to forget that an artist who may have been selling 8 million records eight years ago is now selling the equivalent of 1-2. That is the financial reality of my industry at this moment. My reasons for even entertaining the prospect of a six song record was to simply get the thing out there sooner so that I can go tour all the countries I’ve missed over the years and do what I’m finding I do best which is connect with you…my audience. To tell you the truth I can foresee a very rough road ahead when it comes to finally releasing this record because I will most certainly be at odds with the record company due to us having somewhat different agendas.
I’m not trying to short change anyone, I’m trying to give you more music over less time at a LOWER PRICE. I’m also trying to include you in that decision/creative process which, if I may say so myself, wouldn’t be that easy an opportunity to come by with other artists. I just hope I’m not being too ambitious in that respect.

Dear Vera Blanc,
I don’t normally take people’s accusations to heart especially as I’m an advocate of democracy and free speech but I really felt that this was one exception where I really must take issue. What on earth has all of this misfortune in your country got to do with whether I release a 6 or 12 track album? If you feel as you have stated that you can now “choose not to buy my next record” then by all means don’t let me stop you. You have turned this space into a platform for you to vent your political frustration. This is a place of love and acceptance for like minded people, not the senate. I feel bad for those less fortunate than myself living in third world countries, believe me I do and I am doing my part to help the problem but there are plenty of other websites that will welcome the political tone you’ve chosen to post with on this website.
In short, please don’t spoil it for others and if you still feel angry, then take it somewhere else.
